Behind the convenience, riders face daily road risks, fluctuating pay, opaque penalties, and limited social protection. These are not isolated issues; they are structural problems of platform work that require structural solutions.<\/p><p>Today, CFSWF is joining forces with\u00a0<strong>Food Delivery Worker<\/strong>\u00a0(a worker-led platform for delivery riders) to build a shared agenda\u2014locally and internationally\u2014towards an\u00a0<strong>international convention<\/strong>\u00a0that sets minimum guarantees for platform couriers.<\/p><h2>What this collaboration will do<\/h2><p><strong>1) Document lived realities.<\/strong><br \/>We will gather worker testimonies and data on road safety, algorithmic management, rating systems, deactivations, and income volatility\u2014respecting privacy and informed consent.<\/p><p><strong>2) Co-design common standards.<\/strong><br \/>With riders, unions, researchers, and allies, we will draft a baseline of protections:<\/p><ul><li><p>Safe work: road-safety training, protective equipment, and insurance;<\/p><\/li><li><p>Fair pay: transparent fees, surge rules, and no unpaid waiting time;<\/p><\/li><li><p>Dignity: due process before suspension\/deactivation and appeal channels;<\/p><\/li><li><p>Transparency: clear terms, data access, and explainability of algorithms;<\/p><\/li><li><p>Social protection: access to health coverage, accident insurance, and paid injury recovery.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p><strong>3) Advocate internationally and locally.<\/strong><br \/>We will engage with unions, civil society, and standard-setting bodies to advance an\u00a0<strong>international instrument<\/strong>\u00a0for platform couriers, while pursuing immediate improvements with companies and regulators in Cambodia.<\/p><h2>Our position<\/h2><ul><li><p>Workers must have a\u00a0<strong>voice<\/strong>\u00a0in how platforms set rules that affect their safety and livelihoods.<\/p><\/li><li><p>Companies have a\u00a0<strong>duty to prevent and reduce risks<\/strong>\u00a0linked to their models and to provide effective grievance mechanisms.<\/p><\/li><li><p>Governments must\u00a0<strong>protect freedom of association<\/strong>\u00a0and ensure platform work aligns with decent-work principles.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><h2>What we ask\u2014starting now<\/h2><p><strong>To platform companies:<\/strong><br \/>Open structured dialogue with rider representatives; publish safety policies; provide accident insurance and safety equipment; end punitive targets that push unsafe driving; ensure transparent earnings and appeal processes.<\/p><p><strong>To public authorities:<\/strong><br \/>Ensure road-safety measures for couriers; recognize worker representation; align national policies with international decent-work standards for platform labour.<\/p><p><strong>To allies:<\/strong><br \/>Support independent research, legal clinics, and training.
